Details of New Zealand’s 2013 Block Offer have been released.

Block Offer 2013 includes 189,000 square kilometres of offshore and over 1,500 square kilometres of onshore area. It includes

  • three defined onshore blocks in Taranaki
  • two defined onshore blocks on the East Coast of the North Island
  • three offshore release areas in the Reinga-Northland Basins, Taranaki Basin and Great South-Canterbury Basins

The second ENEX petroleum event in New Plymouth in June 2013 has evolved on the success of the inaugural show in 2011.

ENEX being the major O&G exhibition and industry which attracts a broad spectrum of industry people.

“Simply bigger and better,” says Mike Bridgman, Contrafed Publishing sales and marketing manager.

“Building on the success of the first show, the 2013 event has attracted more involvement from sponsors and the supply side, and we are confident the delegate response will exceed 2011.”

Venture Taranaki has released a new video that shows how the presence of the oil and gas industry has shaped New Plymouth City and the Taranaki region.

Featuring a range of local business people, the video looks at how the industry has contributed to the changing shape of real estate, the contribution of the supply chain and spin offs for retail and hospitality sectors.

A follow-up survey of the Taranaki attendees at the recently held PNG trade briefing indicated a surprising number of local companies either already doing business in PNG or keen to explore business possibilities.

There was also significant interest in the upcoming trade mission currently being planned by the PNG Business Council.

The dates for the Trade Mission are now confirmed for Sunday 19th May – Friday 24th May.

The rapidly expanding onshore oil and gas drilling sector is one sure sign of the good health of the New Zealand energy industry.

Two decades ago the number of land-based drilling rigs could easily be counted on one hand, with Parker Drilling rigs usually dominating drilling activity. Now they are believed to be “stacked” at Bell Block, unlikely to be used again.

The economic value of hydraulic fracturing was again highlighted at the official opening of Nova Energy’s $100 million McKee Power Plant in late March.

A joint economic development study has highlighted the potential of developing an onshore oil and gas industry and thousands of new jobs on the North Island’s East Coast.

The East Coast Oil and Gas Development Study, released today in Napier by Economic Development Minister Steven Joyce and Energy and Resources Minister Simon Bridges, was commissioned to look at the benefits, impacts and risks of petroleum development
